Politically informed approaches to gender in fragile and conflict-affected settings - Castilljo, Domingo, George, and O’Connell (2020)

This report summaries key discussions amongst practitioners regarding work politically on gender in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Across organisations and practitioners working in development, there has been a growing desire to strengthen the gender programming knowledge base. This has led to an increasing recognition of the value of politically informed and adaptative approaches for strengthening work on gender equality, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected environments. This report begins by discussing the ways in which practitioners can focus on gender in a conflict context. The report then explores pre-existing knowledge and ideas regarding organisational opportunities for applying a gendered lens to a politically informed development programme. Finally, the report discusses where more knowledge is needed about gender and development and areas for future programmes in fragile and conflict-affected environments with a gender focus are discussed.
