Pakistan climate, security and risk assessment

The Policy Practice, led by TPP Principal Simon Brook, with TPP Principals Niki Palmer and Sam Bickersteth, and local consultants Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and Ameer Khan, undertook a climate, conflict and security risk assessment in Pakistan. The team incorporated a rapid assessment of capacity needs, based on a conflict-sensitive political economy analysis.

The study helped the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office understand:

  • how climate change interacts with, creates and/or accentuates potential conflict, reduced social cohesion and security dynamics in different sub-national contexts within Pakistan
  • how to identify, prioritise and promote contextually appropriate actions that stakeholders can undertake to prevent and reduce climate-related risks in relation to conflict, social cohesion and security
  • available institutional capacities and resources to deliver these actions at national and sub-national levels,  and where capacity development is needed

This assignment was undertaken under the Expert Advisory Call Down Service framework agreement, managed by DAI.
