WaterAid Political Economy Analysis Toolkit – WaterAid (2015)

Published

WaterAid presents a political analysis toolkit which sets out to provide a structured approach for analysing how change happens, from the national to the local level. This toolkit can assist with shaping country strategies, local country programmes, and ‘everyday’ decisions. The four different tools identified by WaterAid are: (1) country strategy political economy analysis, (2) sector strategy political economy analysis (3) tactical political economy analysis, and (4) everyday political economy analysis. These tools are intended to help development projects achieve the best quality analysis, as well as strong development results. For each tool, an explanation is given for how to use it. This includes a core set of questions and discussion points, as well as exercises that are designed to help the reader visualise the political economy features being analysed. Additionally, this toolkit discusses the implications each tool will have for development.
