Ukraine reconstruction: political economy analysis of environmental sustainability and conservation
Anna Paterson is leading a Policy Practice team which will undertake a study for the World Wildlife Fund in Ukraine. They will analyse the governance obstacles and opportunities in sustainable reconstruction, and the implications for the conservation sector.
The study adopts a problem-driven approach to analyse the pre-war political economy underpinning patterns of corruption affecting environmental sustainability and conservation in Ukraine. It will assess how the war has changed this political economy, and the main resulting risks to conservation. lt will recommend politically-smart approaches to countering the drivers of corruption affecting conservation, and ensuring anti-corruption, environmental protection and adequate attention to conservation in the use of reconstruction finance.
