TPP Director Neil McCulloch was in Indonesia in May 2026 to undertake a political economy analysis (PEA) for Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He led a team with Indonesian experts from the International Institute for Sustainable Development, the National Research and Innovation Agency, and InfraIndo, a local think tank working on infrastructure.
TPP Director Laure-Hélène Piron provided advice on democratic resilience, reviewing approaches that have worked to protect and deepen democratic space internationally. She then peer reviewed the design of a new programme as part of the Australian partnership with Indonesia.

TPP Director Neil McCulloch worked with the international climate change think tank E3G and the Indonesian think thank the Institute for Essential Services Reform to explore the political economy of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
This study examined the factors strengthening or weakening the environment for private investment and inclusive growth in eleven middle-income countries. The Policy Practice managed the research and produced a synthesis paper. It undertook two of these studies directly, and identified nine other country experts.
