Putting gender in political economy analysis: Why it matters and how to do it – Haines and O’Neil (2018)

Up until recently, political economy analysis has tended to ignore the role of gender, despite it being one of the most prevalent systems of power. This has resulted in some of the major ways that organisations need to think and work politically being overlooked. Traditional gender analysis has often focused exclusively on social norms and has ignored the political structures that influence gender relations and outcomes for women. This guidance note by Haines and O’Neil aims to address this gap by demonstrating how political economy analysis can be improved by adopting a gendered perspective and how a gendered focus can be implemented in practice.
