From purposeful to meaningful adaptive programming: how about adaptive operations? – Nixon (2019)

Published

This blog presents a short, critical analysis of the recent rise in adaptive management programmes and highlights gaps which have caused a misunderstanding of what it means in practice.  It explains that the ideas of adaptative management arose from challenges with traditional, technical development programmes and a growing recognition that programmes must be able to be flexible and adaptable. Nixon, however, emphasises that whilst adaptive management has received lots of recognition, it has not yet translated into widespread use in practice. Suggestions are provided for why this might be, and important questions are asked which helps the reader evaluate the adaptive management approach.
