Political Economy Analysis to support the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia
The Policy Practice conducted a Political Economy Analysis to support the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia in developing its next Mission Strategy. The study provided a broad, evidence-based assessment of Ethiopia’s governance, socio-economic, conflict, and diplomatic contexts, with attention to regional linkages across the Horn of Africa.
Working closely with Embassy staff, the team combined document review, expert interviews, and participatory workshops to identify key trends, underlying drivers of change, and implications for future engagement. The analysis explored how social, economic, and institutional factors interact, and highlighted areas where development partnerships can most effectively support inclusive and sustainable outcomes.
Led by Ethiopian and international experts, the project aimed to strengthen understanding of the evolving operating environment and inform strategic, policy, and programming decisions for Ireland’s cooperation in Ethiopia and the region.
