Political economy analysis of forensic medicine in Burundi

TPP Director Laure-Hélène Piron continues her collaboration with the Swiss Development Cooperation office in Burundi by conducting a political economy analysis (PEA) of the forensic medicine sector.

She joined a team of Burundian and Swiss technical experts to review whether and how the Swiss government could assist Burundi's police, justice and medical sectors develop the requisite legal and policy framework and the technical expertise for a new forensic medicine institute and to improve Burundi's scientific police. The programme's objective would be to reduce impunity and assist survivors of gender-based violence. The PEA considered whether Burundi's political context and the network of existing stakeholders are conducive to achieve the programme's objective.
