Everyday Political Analysis – Hudson, Marquette, and Waldock (2016)

This Brief introduces a framework that emphasises the importance of thinking about politics and power in development and demonstrates how it can be used within different development programmes. This framework has been called Everyday Political Analysis. The brief is designed to show staff what politics and power can mean for their development programmes. Hudson, Marquette, and Waldock provide a simple analytical tool which can to help conduct a quick political analysis and make this an accessible part of practice. Two steps for everyday political analysis are presented in this note: (1) understanding interests: what makes people tick? and (2) understanding change: what space and capacity do people have to effect change? For each step a series of questions are provided.
