Democratic governance in Senegal
Senegal has emerged as a stronger democracy following elections in 2024. Despite outgoing President Macky Sall's attempt to restrict political and civic space and undermine free and fair elections, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, released from prison 10 days before presidential elections, took over power peacefully and became Africa's youngest President.
In this context of renewed democratic space, Laure-Hélène Piron, TPP Director, is collaborating with Babacar Ndiaye, Director of Research at the West African Think Tank WATHI, to undertake a political economy analysis of opportunities for supporting democratic resilience in Senegal for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
