Central Asia: Effective Governance for Economic Development

Gareth Williams is supporting ACTED to conduct political economy analysis the Effective Governance for Economic Development programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in Central Asia. The objective of the project is to improve the effectiveness, accountability and transparency of economic policy making and delivery in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

ACTED is running Pillar 2 Civil Society for Accountability: activating civil society to demand inclusive, evidence-based economic growth in Central Asia.

The overall purpose of the political economy analysis facilitated by The Policy Practice is to improve project effectiveness, mitigate political risks, and ensure the project is politically feasible. Political economy analyses conducted so far have assessed the overall context for civil society engagement in policy processes in the three countries and covered specific pollcy issues covered by the project including regional development, social protection, labour rights, public procurement and decarbonisation.
